Jazz is a revolutionary art form. And perhaps, no other group represents and approaches that statement morefearlessly than the Curtis Brothers. Keeping Latin Jazz alive and vital with a fresh and new perspective, Zaccai (piano) and Luques Curtis (bass), along with fellow soul and band matesReinaldo DeJesus (congas), Richie Barshay (drums), Giovanni Almonte (vocals) continue to forge ahead into new territories using original compositions and arrangements within the jazz and Latin idioms. While influenced by Puerto Rican and Cuban rhythms, their music is uniquely their own and speaks for itself featuring an inventive, fresh sound that never lacks depth or emotion while still staying true to its roots.
Their latest release, Blood•Spirit•Land•Water•Freedom, which represents key components to our physical and metaphysical experience and (relative) reality, was recently given 4 stars by Downbeat Magazine. They were awarded the best Latin Jazz album for an up-and-coming artist in 2009 and they have also received a nomination for a 2009 Independent Music Award and Best Latin Jazz Album of the year from The Latin Jazz Corner. Displaying the synergistic qualities of a group that have been together for over years, the Curtis Brothers have worked and performed with such luminaries as Danilo Perez, Eddie Palmieri, Ralph Peterson and Christian Scott to name a few. Although innovative, the Curtis Brothers are interested in and preserving the essence of jazz itself and remain and accessible
